Korean Studies Summer Program (KSSP)

The Korean Studies Summer Program (KSSP) offers international students from around the world an exciting opportunity to learn about Korea and its culture during the summer. The goal of the program is to guide each participant into a total experience of the rich and dynamic Korean culture in historical and contemporary social contexts. An additional goal is to promote awareness of Korea's unique place among East Asian cultures.

The program is designed to accommodate students from English speaking countries or with proper English proficiency since all the lectures and programs are conducted in English. A wide array of Korean studies lectures, study tours, and field trips will also allow students to explore and learn directly about Korea on a first-hand basis.

Overview:

Students who participate on this program will earn 3 credits in Korean Studies. The KSSP program offers students an excellent opportunity to learn about Korean language and culture.  Students will also participate in a Teaching Practicum where they gain professional experience and earn 3 additional credits.  This type of cross-cultural experience will be highly beneficial to participants' cultivation of global citizenship.

About the Program:

KSSP will be hosted at Hannam University, a small English-speaking campus located in the center of Daejeon, S. Korea.  During the first three weeks of the program participants will complete a course focused on Korean language and culture.  The course is subject to change but generally includes the following topics and activities: Korean Martial Arts, Architecture, Society, History, Dance, Intercultural Communication, Cinema, Culture and field excursions.

The fourth week of the program students will complete a Teaching Practicum where they will teach English to elementary school students.
