There are several different types of study abroad programs available to UNC Asheville students. Financial aid for students in these programs varies. Before applying for any of the following programs, students are encouraged to contact the Office of Financial Aid to determine if their financial aid can be used to cover costs of the program they desire.
Students participating in UNC Asheville’s Exchange programs may use all types of financial aid for which the student qualifies, including Federal, State, and UNC Asheville grants, scholarships, and/or loans.

Fudan University Program - In this unique program, North Carolina students have the chance to study at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, and in exchange, Fudan University students have the opportunity to study at one of the participating North Carolina public institutions!
International Student Exchange Program
International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) - "ISEP, the first global student exchange consortium, is a worldwide network of over 160 higher education institutions in 50 countries cooperating to provide affordable access to international education for a diverse student population." ISEP also has a Direct option. See under Non-Exchange Programs for details.
Students participating in programs other than the Exchange programs listed above may use Federal and State grants, scholarships, and/or loans. These non-exchange programs include ISEP-Direct or other outside programs. UNC Asheville institutional scholarships and grants may not be used for these programs.
Academic Programs International (API) - "API is committed to creating the best study abroad experience possible by offering comprehensive programs that complement and enhance the learning experience with cultural, volunteer, and travel opportunities. Academic Studies Abroad (ASA) - "Studying abroad is not about being a visitor in a new city, but about becoming part of that culture. We strongly encourage our students to not only see their host country, but to become a part of it by experiencing the customs, speaking the language and understanding the way of life. This will help you gain a cultural awareness achieved only by living and studying in another country."
American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) - "Founded in 1964, the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS) has more than 40 years of experience in organizing study abroad programs. We have helped more than one million participants realize their dream of international education and cultural exchange. AIFS provides study abroad programs in 19 countries: Australia, Austria, Botswana, Brazil, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Spain and Turkey."
CAPA International Education - "For nearly 40 years CAPA has provided students with the learning experience of a lifetime. CAPA programs take place at our strategically designed study centers in Beijing, Brussels, Florence, London,and Sydney. This means that we can shape every aspect of your program to meet your personal needs and ensure your study abroad experience is relevant to your city."
CIDEF - So as to develop everyone's knowledge and skills in the best conditions possible, every language class calls on state-of-the-art teaching techniques and methods. The CIDEF offers training in French language and culture, from A1 to C2 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) during the academic year divided into two semesters and summer (sessions July, August and September).
Granada Sur Experiences - Granada, Spain - "Our main goal is to provide students with an opportunity to have a personal experience abroad. We focus on the immersion of the student in the culture, language, history, institutions, gastronomy, etc., of the host country in order to enrich the student's linguistic, cultural, and human skills." International Studies Abroad (ISA) - "For twenty five years, International Studies Abroad (ISA) has provided college students in the United States and Canada the opportunity to explore the world. ISA offers a wide variety of study abroad programs at accredited schools and universities in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Morocco, Northern Ireland, Panama, Peru, South Korea, and Spain."
International Student Exchange Program-Direct - ISEP-Direct programs are open to students from any ISEP member institution. Click the link to find out what benefit packages (Tuition, Room and Meals) are offered for each Direct site.
Language Center Universidad de Valladolid - Spanish courses are offered for students of A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 levels so students can improve their command of the Spanish language and gain an understanding of the culture of Spanish society.
School for International Training (SIT) Study Abroad - "A pioneer in experiential, field-based study abroad, SIT Study Abroad provides academically engaging semester and summer programs in Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East for undergraduate students."
Semester In Spain - On this program, which began in 1985, undergraduates from six North Carolina campuses, as well as qualified students from other institutions, have the opportunity to spend a semester in the coastal city of Santander, taking classes from Spanish professors in Spanish geography, literature, art, history and language.
Spanish Studies Abroad - "Since 1969, Spanish Studies Abroad has designed its own innovative programming with a focus on academic integrity, Spanish language acquisition, and student integration into the local culture. We are constantly adapting and improving our programs through regular analysis and evolution to make sure we are providing our students with the greatest learning experience possible. Our dedicated faculty and staff provide personalized support to students every step of the way."
University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia - Study areas are divided into six disciplines, these being Business and Information Technology, Communication and Design, Education, Health, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Engineering.
